We borrowed a "Lawrence of Arabia" DVD from the library the other day. It was made in the 1960's and won a lot of awards but Sam, our resident History buff, wanted to watch it only because he had read several books on the subject. After watching about half of it he decided not to finish it. When I asked him why he wasn't enjoying it, he responded with:
"Well, I reckon they were so busy making it historically accurate...they just forgot to make it interesting."
So I asked if the storyline was similar to what he had read (because we often discuss the large difference between movie-storytelling and book-storytelling) and Sam said
"Yeah, the movie was accurate. It's just that, in my head, it was more fun."
(oh you know I love that.)
Today, the 4th of July, when the boys heard they still had to do some schoolwork (and I am not being cruel, really! It's just that we were home this morning, without much to do) Josiah is heard mumbling quietly:
"I thought today we were celebrating the end of tyranny?"
and here is a picture Caleb drew to celebrate our Independence Day. With fireworks, a flag and Abe Lincoln!

Enjoy your holiday!

You know, after reading this, I thought that maybe Sam should become a movie producer. I think that I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO SEE A MOVIE FROM SAM'S HEAD too. (Probably Caleb's and Josiah's would be interesting as well!)
