Even the sparrow has found a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may have her young... a place near your altar, O Lord Almighty, my King and my God." Psalm 84:3

Happy Independence Day!

Our family spent the 4th in true American style...with good friends, grilled meat, swimming and then setting expensive things on fire.
We all love this holiday but I think that, of the five of us, none of us enjoy it as much as SAM.

...is it because he loves history so much? because he shares the moniker "Sam" with those brave men of old- Mr. Adams, Mr. Houston and Mr. Morse? (not to forget THE Uncle Sam)

...or is it because he lives for Summers hot sun, water guns and swimming with dangerously tight goggles?

I suspect it is because his DNA has been deeply imprinted with his Daddy's disease...pyromania. When we moved to Oregon 4 years ago and John realized that fireworks were legal (for they no longer are in Washington) he wondered aloud why we prayed so long and hard over the decision to move...clearly THIS confirmed God's will that we live here. (he was only partially joking!)

Before I took this photo I instructed Sam to "Look patriotic." I imagined a different pose but he has studied enough that he immediately pointed his sparkler at me and looked fierce! He loves the bravery of those original Patriots, the militia. He thrills to read of regular men, farmers and shopkeepers grabbing their muskets and picking off Redcoats from behind rocks.

friendship. brotherhood. the right to pursue happiness.

You're right Buddy, this holiday IS "the best!"

Maybe next year we will be able to join you! Caitlin really loved this holiday too. She kept asking us about lighting fireworks over and over today. It's hard for her to understand that holidays are only one day long!
