Even the sparrow has found a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may have her young... a place near your altar, O Lord Almighty, my King and my God." Psalm 84:3

in the car today...

This lovely little song is one of Sam and Caleb's favorite ditties...they read it in the classic book "When The Boys Ran the House". Every now and then something will remind them and they will start lustily belting it out, in unison, just to annoy the homeschool teacher:
(to the tune of "On Top of 'Ole Smoky")
On top of the schoolhouse...
all covered with blood.
I shot my poor teacher
with a 40 foot slug.
I shot her with pleasure,
I shot her with pride.
I couldn't have missed her,
She's forty feet wide.

So they sing it for Uncle Tom in the car today-very loudly, very proudly- and Josiah stops them after the first round. The conversation went like this:
J-"Guys, thats not correct. It's not a 40 foot slug! It's a 44 slug."
C-"no, it isn't. we read the book, you didn't."
J-"Yes, it is! 40 foot slug doesn't even make sense. A 44 slug is a bullet, for a gun. Not a snail-like creature."
S-"the book said 40 foot slug. Besides that's funnier."
J-"no, it's not. It's impossible, anyway! Even if there was a slug that big, how could you shoot it at the teacher?!"
S-"easy."
S-"with a cannon, of course."
