Science fun

One of the things I love about our new curriculum is the activities that accompany the daily lesson plans. They are short, simple, and hands-on. I love that they give you a little list at the beginning of the week so you know to pick up rubber bands, a cork and a box of pudding for that weeks experiments. This is essential, because while my heart is in the right place and WANTS to do "fun school" with my boys? The reality is that if it's too much hassle or I don't have everything we need right here...we will skip it, every time. And that is a shame because the boys favorite memories are of this type of thing.

When we first began homeschooling we had such fun! A sugar cube pyramid and edible play dough letter shapes and a baking soda volcano and a backyard archaeological dig and on and on. But over the years I got tired. and I started skipping the extras to make more time for "real academics". and I told myself the boys were too old for such things. and man, school got boring!
So I am determined to add a little sugar to this years medicine, and grateful to My Fathers World curriculum, for helping me reach that goal more easily.

It's not a ziploc baggie, it's the cell membrane. And that isn't lemon Jell-O, it is cytoplasm which fills the cell. We can't forget that control center, the cell's nucleus! Represented by a fat purple grape-organic, of course.
Lunch and school combined and as the boys slurped up their creations, Caleb said
"Mom, this is the best cytoplasm I have EVER tasted!"
