As most everyone knows, (and by the end of Summer you may be oh-so-sick of hearing about but too bad!) I am gearing up to run my first marathon in October. I plan to do a quick post every Sunday night, just to keep accountable for my training mileage, and the promises that pulled me through those miles.
A big part of why I took on this crazy challenge was my desire to practice more consistently the spiritual habits of endurance and self-discipline. They are not traits that come naturally to me, and so I am asking God to mature me in this area. Until Fall, as I'm reading my Bible, I'm writing down all the verses that tug at my heart-that feel relevant to whatever my patient Father may be teaching His distracted daughter that week, (I'm homeschooled too, you know. which explains my socialization problems.) and then choosing a few to "chew on" and mediate over as I run. 1 Timothy 4:8 says why--
"For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come."
and if you have any great verses that you want to share?
Toss that living water this way.
I grow very parched for a cool drink by Mile 5!
1st week: 12.13 miles
verse: That classic, Isaiah 40:31 "but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."
2nd week: 16.85 miles
verse: James 1:4 "and let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be complete, lacking nothing."
total-to-date: 28.98 miles (it says something about my personality, doesn't it? that I want to go out and measure .2 miles and jog it in my bathrobe, just so I can bump that to an even 29?)

Here's one that made me think of you...
"Most people run a race to see who is fastest. I run a race to see who has the most guts."
