
Gordon (my Mom's husband) gave Sam and Josiah a short education with the "Old Timer" knife while we were camping. Though Grampa's hand was in a splint his teaching was patient and kind, and thus, successful...no band aids needed. I remember carving a glorious sea turtle (perhaps to less observant eyes it may have appeared as a lumpy rock with tic-tac-toe on its back) onto Ivory soap when I was their age. I think we'll get out a few bars this week and hone those skills...call it pioneer studies and we can count it as real school...
