Surprise!

In the 3 years since we moved here, John's Dad and Claudia have NEVER missed calling the boys on their special day. Saturday morning when the phone rang Caleb confidently shouted out "That's Gramma!" and grinned as he answered it, ready to hear her sing him the classic old birthday anthem. He had no idea they were just stringing him along, and he even agreed to call them that evening when he opened the present (they had cleverly mailed it a few days before!) So when we sent Caleb to answer the knock on the door a few hours later, he was shocked speechless! (those of you who know the child get just how rare occasion this is, right?) His brothers were pretty surprised too and we had a little grandson hug-fest there in the kitchen entryway.
It was visible I tell you, the way the dreary fog of that over 6 hour journey dissipated in the sunshine of all that joy!
