Even the sparrow has found a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may have her young... a place near your altar, O Lord Almighty, my King and my God." Psalm 84:3

feel the love...

5 units of deluxe garden compost dumped Friday afternoon and the truck driver grunted "Yeah. Soon as I pulled in here I remembered, from last year. Your birthday present, huh?" it may be an unusual gift John knows the path to my heart and has worn a nice trail to it's door.
So I am giddy over the little mountain of earthworm manna right here in my driveway. I seem to be the only person around who thinks this smells earthy and good. Josiah commented "Oh Mom, now our yard stinks like DUNG" but I assure you, it does not. It smells like well-composted, AGED dung.
So in the next few weeks this will get spread 2-3 inches thick over and around every hungry plant on this acre. In order to do this I get up early, pull on my oldest pair of Levis and a stained Mickey Mouse tee and my favorite orange gloves. Situate boys with breakfast and orders to start chores. Gulp 2 cups of hot coffee. Fill red wheelbarrow one shovel full at a time, distribute around yard, return to pile, repeat until exhausted or boys restless, about 6-8 loads. A good mother just really enjoys feeding those she loves and, as I tuck it around infant green plants, I swear... I can hear them sighing with satisfaction.

I am right there with you on the smell. Can't wait to get going outside myself! Looking forward to seeing your little ones soon! Aren't they growing up so fast? :) ~F
