This morning we woke up to WHITE. I had to tell the boys about when I was their age, how Uncle Brian and I would sit by the radio in the early morning on just such a day-with our fingers crossed and hoping-hoping-hoping that there was enough snow to cancel school. We would listen as they started listing area schools, the anticipation building higher and higher until we heard OUR elementary school's name! Then we'd be whooping with excitement over this totally unexpected holiday, and scrambling to get our mittens and sleds out. They liked the story but their favorite part was the ending where, in my best radio announcer voice, I intoned "and Red
Barn Academy?...CLOSED." Our school? Closed?! To play?!!! Caleb screeched "This is the BEST DAY OF MY LIFE!"
They were up and whooping and scrambling for their hats and gloves-not even stopping to eat BREAKFAST!
Caleb made a snow angel in the driveway...
Lucy, being of stout German heritage, seems to like the snow. I wish she would not tear up her dog bed and blankets. I worry about her at night, but she thinks any bedding we give her is just a big teething rag...
Getting the perfect snowball was tough-it's very dry and powdery! Not good "packing snow".
The pretty view down our road-it's so quiet and calm, the epitome of peace.
And catching snowflakes on your tongue is classic.
And just look at those pink cheeks! I love this hat on Sam. If ever a hat fit a personality? This one does.
the aftermath! I am so grateful for a mudroom to catch the wet mess. Last year this was all over the kitchen floor! You like that galvanized tub in the corner to hold all the light sabers and misc. weaponry? Yeah. I've given up.

Cool... any hills around there for sledding? We had a pretty short-lived & sad attempt at laundry basketing down our driveway yesterday. It was fun but did not work too well. The dogs & Caitlin and I hit the park earlier in the morning... Caitlins' favorite thing to do: eat snow.
