On my list of things to do before we start back in to school, is several painting jobs. I finished (mostly) painting the exterior of the house, last month. There were some seriously angry yellow jackets that convinced me to leave the highest eaves of the westside alone!
Since we do our school inside, and I sold a bunch of books at the homeschool sale, I emptied the old classroom and converted it into my own craft space! It is painted Ralph Lauren "Sanctuary". (and it will be!) I found this breakfast bar/island thing at St. Vincent for $21 and it makes a perfect sewing desk. I am looking forward to catching up on all our scrapbooking! I haven't done any, in over a year. I re-painted the concrete floor, in a color called "Pebble." Then I painted all the trim and the ceiling in a bright white. I go in there and just smile, now. My own space!? It is a luxury I wasn't expecting for another ten years or so!
This was the simplest job, but the one that makes me happiest. You can see the hallway from the dining room/kitchen and it was just, bleh. It had the old yellow paint from the kitchen plus some contrasting green paint that I had put in the washer/dryer closet, plus the brown ugly cheap trim around all the doors. All that, plus a tacky brass light that was dim and shadowy.
I painted everything crisp white, and added a vintage ceiling light. It looks so fresh and bright now! I was trying to remember the last time I painted a wall white? I am usually painting OVER boring white with a warmer color. But sometimes, white is the best choice-especially for a dark hallway that you want to feel simple and fresh. Next, I want to replace the brown, stained, hollow-core doors with solid wood, white doors (that have a nice beadboard inset) and add brushed nickel handles. But none of that is a necessity, like food/textbooks/tires/Starbucks, so it will be put off for awhile. I am trying to decide if it is worth the trouble to prime and paint them, while I wait? Probably!
Next paint projects? Sam and Caleb's room (they are begging for neon green but I am holding out for soft camel brown), and our bathroom (undecided, but something soft and fresh). Sept is around the corner so I better get out the brushes.

Love the new space. Painting is so fun...well not the actual work part but the finished part. I can't wait to start painting here. Must put things away first!
The sewing room and hall look great. I can't believe you won't let your dear, sweet, boys the room color of their choice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Since I know for a fact, that it is a happy, fun and exciting color for a young person. My daughter and I highly recommend Tree Frog Green. You might still have some under your nails. : - )
Guess who?
The "craft/Kraft" room looks great as does the hallway (especially now that I can see the before and after photos). I'm thinking of repainting as well, but must convince my hub of it. I want a lighter living room, for sure. We'll see if it happens. =)
