to blog about Claudia's birthday?!!
It was a great Memorial Day weekend, full of family visiting from everywhere and delicious food and playing games and laughing and just celebrating this wonderful woman whom we all adore:
I won't say how old she turned....
but it was standing room only for the first BBQ in Lee and Claudia's new house! Sherri, Amy, Noelle, Julie, Tony, Tara, Savannah, Tom and Andie all came from the Portland area. John and Candy drove down from Spokane.
love this photo! You can tell that little Savannah has spent quality time with her Aunt Julie by her delighted expressions!
you can tell the boys have spent quality time with Uncle John by their pained expressions! John is reaping the rewards of years of wrestling and wet willies and noogies. Except now the nephews aren't 6, 4 and 2 years old and it's getting a little harder to fend them all off and sometimes garden hoses get involved and the yard empties quickly of all grown-ups...
The proud grandparents with Caleb, Sam, Noelle, Josiah and Savannah. (See little Grandma back there?!)

The proud grandparents with Caleb, Sam, Noelle, Josiah and Savannah. (See little Grandma back there?!)On Monday we packed coolers full of the leftover food and headed towards the Pacific Coast. We didn't have ENOUGH family, so we had to go invade Uncle Deacon's house and spend the day with him, Hilary, Mackenzie, and their 40 acres of sand dunes!
Caleb has his sand goggles on and is just a wee bit excited about the afternoons possibilities!
We explored that sand every way we could!

We explored that sand every way we could! So....How many ways can you get sand in your ears? Well, you can hook up a snow sled to the quad and get pulled around...
You can drive the dune buggy around...
Uncle Deacon will fill the bucket of the loader with willing passengers and give an aerial view of the property...
and experienced sandboarder Mackenzie will share her boards and give free lessons on how to "surf the sand". She is 12 and agile and the type of pro that makes it look easy and you decide to try...
but as Candy and Sam show, it can be hard to get up, and sometimes hard to stay up!
but John got it down! Claudia's son John, that is. My John was here:
driving the 4 wheeler with Caleb. Caleb, who used to be (just a few months ago!) terrified of all the above options and happy to play on the sand dunes with a shovel and pail...now he has developed his "courage muscle" to the point where he only wants to ride with "Dad or Mackenzie. Because noone else drives FAST ENOUGH."

My tailbone still hurts...but it was worth it for that 12 seconds of flight!
Happy Birthday Claudia! we love you!
